University of Chicago aerial

On July 1, 2013, the 乐播传媒 formally affiliated with the University of Chicago. The affiliation strengthened both institutions鈥 missions of leadership and innovation in scientific research and education. It also built upon shared values and historical ties between Chicago and the 乐播传媒, which was led by University of Chicago faculty members for the first four decades of its existence. The 乐播传媒 is an independent 501(c)3 in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

For the first several decades following the 乐播传媒鈥檚 founding, when research and teaching at the lab was carried out solely in the summer months, faculty from the University of Chicago provided important leadership.  Five of the 乐播传媒鈥檚 eighteen directors, including the first two, were faculty members at the University of Chicago, and two of the 乐播传媒鈥檚 laboratory buildings are named in recognition of University of Chicago scientists.

Both the 乐播传媒 and the University of Chicago have reputations for highly collaborative and interactive cultures that draw top biologists from around the world. The 乐播传媒's unique convening power attracts faculty and students from well over 100 different institutions each year. Scientists from these institutions, like those from UChicago, carry out research at different times of the year in 乐播传媒 facilities. The many active projects and collaborations benefit from the 乐播传媒's reputation as a convenor of science, both nationally and internationally.
