1.0: At the time a staff member retires from the Marine Biological Laboratory, the Laboratory may wish to acknowledge the service of that staff member in an appropriate and equitable manner.

• For staff who have been at the �ֲ���ý less than 5 years it is appropriate to host a small informal departmental gathering at the end of the final workday. The budget for this gathering is $100.

2.0 Employees with 5-10 years of service:
An informal gathering of co-workers in the �ֲ���ý community should be arranged by the staff member’s department. Food and beverages may be arranged by the Department from departmental funds. The budget for this gathering is $500.

3.0 Employees with 11-20+ years of service:
An informal gathering may be held in the Swope Center or some other appropriate meeting area at the �ֲ���ý. All employees, family members, and appropriate members of the local community may be invited to attend. The Director may be asked to briefly speak. Departments and friends should be discouraged from giving gifts at the party as this can be done privately. The budget for this gathering is $550 - $1000.

If an employee is not retiring from the �ֲ���ý, but rather leaving the �ֲ���ý to pursue other opportunities we wish those employees the best in their new endeavors. The �ֲ���ý does not provide funds for going away or farewell gatherings.

4.0 Finances
The �ֲ���ý will sponsor retirement gatherings that occur on �ֲ���ý premises. If a department chooses to have additional gatherings to celebrate the employee, those costs will be covered by the individuals.
