NXR BL-7 Vapor Shipper

Arrival

  1. Open the cardboard box containing the BL-7 vapor shipper.
    The BL-7 has a rounded bottom and is held upright with polystyrene inserts. The unit can be used directly from the shipping box or removed and held with a polystyrene insert for a reduced footprint. Retain the cardboard box for return shipping as it contains special markings identifying the type of material being transported.
  2. The lid of the BL-7 shipper has an attached basket which hangs below and contains the samples.
  3. Once the vapor shipper arrives, it should be charged with enough LN2 to hold a temperature of -196掳C for 7-8 days.
    Additional LN2 may be added to the BL-7 to extend the duration of sample storage.
  4. Fill a polystyrene box with enough dry ice or LN2 to submerge samples.
  5. Lift the lid of the BL-7 until you can visualize samples in the basket.
    Remove all samples to a LN2 dewar for long-term storage or remove as necessary during the duration of the BL-7 hold time.
  6. Using long forceps, collect a sample from the BL-7 basket and transfer it to a nearby container of LN2 or dry ice.
    Samples degrade rapidly when exposed to ambient temperature, so care should be taken to transfer samples quickly.
  7. Lower the basket and secure the lid of the BL-7 until next use.

Return

  1. The BL-7 vapor shipper may be shipped charged (LN2 vapor), but cannot be shipped containing non-absorbed liquid.
  1. If additional LN2 has been added to the BL-7 after arrival, any remaining liquid should be discarded before shipping.
    If excess liquid is visible in the bottom of the shipper when it is in an upright position, the shipper should be inverted, and excess liquid dumped into a suitable container.
  2. Once the shipper is emptied of samples and excess liquid, it can be secured with the polystyrene inserts from the original shipping box.
  3. The lid should be inserted securely into the top of the shipper with the hanging basket enclosed.
  1. The shipping box can then be resealed and shipped back to the NXR.
